Door seals

Post by k. rogers »

Are there any tips on fitting replacement rubber door seals? What adhesive is best? I've tried one door using Evostick contact adhesive but was not very successful in places - in the tighter corners the seal has come adrift.

Hello Ken,

Perhaps one of the variations of 'Sikaflex' sealant/adhesives will work.
I've used Sixaflex 221 for a number of appilcations and when it's cured it'll be really - 'stuck to the blanket'.
Apparently, some types are used by coachbuilders to stick panel on buses instead of pop rivets as of old.
There are cheaper similar products, but I've forgotten the names.
See you soon in Hampshire,

Tony.

That's the stuff, though also our local supplier changed to Omniseal recently, and it appears to be the same stuff - ideal for attaching two things together that you never ever ever want to come apart ever again :) Be very careful with the stuff, use gloves and make sure that floors, surfaces and particularly bits of car are well protected around the area you want to stick.

It is very similar to Silkaflex used to seal boats and caravans, and would probably do a similar job I suspect.

Whatever you go for ends up being about £10 a tube, but you don't need much at all to stick things like seals into place.

Jack.

Tigerseal is good stuff. Its currently holding the water in my corsa's washer bottle as it has small hole in the bottom. Also on the subject of adesives. At work we use a spray on glue called martirm, which we use for interiors and trim. Its availble as a brush on or spray on. Its a contact glue spray one item then the other. leave to become tacky for a few secs. and once its in place its a rather good adeshion.
