Indicators and dash lights How to.

Post by Keith Andrews »

Dash indicator lights

My dash has a couple holes above / each side of the steering column...(I dont cut vintage steel...looks like someone previous attempted to put in lights for indicators...
Due to the simplicity of std Bradford wiring, this is easy, if u know what u are doing...
If a light is put into series before the switch, it will blow because the current drawn by trafficators and/or installed indicators is to great for them to handle...
In parrrell after on each side of the switch results in trafficators/indicators not working...electricty is drawn to the easiest path.

To set up successfully, 2 led lights..(.the little ones used in car alarms that auto flash) are needed
these go from each side of the output of the indicator switch to earth.

IF u have a couple of old Bradford ign light holders..that dont work...puul the internals out and the LEDs sip inside nice, using the old red front light lens...and at least look the part....

Add on external indicators:
If u want to keep the working trafficators, connect in Before the trafficators
DO Not connect in after the trafficators.
The current the lights draw will eventually burn out the solenoids of the trafficators.
U will need to put a regulated flasher unit (one that doesn't change speed if a indicator light blows or use trailer lights) into each of the left and right hand circuits after the switch, the wire to the lights.

If u dont have trafficators or going to disable, 1 flasher unit before the switch..main power lead...with activate both sides.
(if u do this and use the trafficators they will wave up and down.)
A single dash light can be wired in before the switch and to earth, or if require a light for each side, put into each side circuit to earth. Dont put into series as this will blow them, explained above.
My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
