Tolerances

Post by Forumadmin »

In the pre-war section discussion took place on wear on brake shoes. Now we all know that all rubbing surfaces wear and things get bent out of shape. Chris is busy measuring all parts of a Javelin body and chassis and I am doing the same for all the mechanical parts. But the question remains in many cases is what should the correct dimension be and what tolerance either side of this is acceptable. Now acceptable will be different for different purposes (those wanting precise steering for racing will want everything aligned much better than a car that is used for 100 miles a year to go to a club event).

Some of this information is in the manuals but an awful lot is not. So do we have to rely on our mechanical engineering skills or should we pool our knowlege here on JowettTalk?
