The Complete Jowett History states that the bodies came from Briggs completely trimmed excluding the rear seat cushion, radiator grille and bonnet, but Jowetts installed the steering columns, suspensions etc..

By the way, when my Javelin was being restored I went to a Jaguar restoration shop to see about them making new carpets, which they did. I then asked them about remaking the door panels. When they looked at them, they said that they were made in exactly the same way that Mk 9 Jaguar door panels were made, so it was straightforward for them to make mine.

With the old air tube being of very thin metal and full of rust a new one was made up - what is of great help when you are making up lots of panels is one of these

The steering box requires a new oil-sealing boot. This is hopefully the only rubber component we failed to order from Jowett Car Spares when Peter and I did a parts book analysis. Some of the components were not available so we will have to find from other sources. JCS do have the boot in stock and I am working with them to make sure we have all the components available for future rebuilds.

You will be lucky if any of the rubber on the car can be reused, so my advice is to order the lot.

for Chris, looking through some old Jowett Technical bulletins I have found an item No 162, dated Nov 1953 which describes how to convert the old style spring arm ( ie the lower arm of the front suspension) to rubber bushed . It entails modifying the outer yoke to take rubber bushes, but does not specify a make or type so presumably the bushes are those used on the later varsion.There is no reference to converting the upper arm perhaps because it is completely different and would have to be replaced.

There is a drawing of the mods which I could mail to you --no scan--if of interest. If anyone has more info on this or has made the change it would be of interest . regards Bob
