Update on my Diesel Legacy:
Over Christmas Dealer removed sump and found metal debris.
Photographed the debris and referred to Subaru UK asking if they would make some sort of good will gesture.
Subaru requested an ECU down load, service history and state of oil at failure.
On Friday, despite the fact that the car has done 108K miles and is over 4 years old and currently worth about £6.5K they agreed to fund the supply and fitting of a new engine (approx £12K bill)
They are obviously working hard to get their eye back on the ball!!!

That would have been fitted with a early 4WD Gbox. at least mid 70s if not late 70s.Forumadmin wrote:There was also a Javelin at the Buxton rally in the 70s with a Subaru gearbox.
4WD gearbox was only introduced approx 1974-1975.

Re: Jowett/Subaru
Paul - That is some goodwill gesture in a day and age where worldwide industry & commerce has very tight belts - then again Subaru must have loads of funds sloshing about since they stopped financing the works rally team - that alone was some serious investment. On Friday, despite the fact that the car has done 108K miles and is over 4 years old and currently worth about £6.5K they agreed to fund the supply and fitting of a new engine (approx £12K bill)

Based on the fact that you are getting a new engine in the car FOC - has soon it gets returned I would be booking the car into a good bodyshop and have the paintwork proffesionally polished / waxed and any imperfections / paint chips etc sorted - I would also get the wheelarch / wing protection covers removed and the whole underside pressure washed and then retreated with a proven rust prevention treatment / Dinatrol etc - after all you should now get another 100k miles / 5 years out of the car - and it would be false economy to let the rust bug end the life the of the car before you obtained the mileage out the engine. At that end of the country you are probably using R N Golden who have always been a very honest Subaru main dealer.

Re: Jowett/Subaru
I havnt heard much about the Subaru diesel boxer. Thought it mite had been more reliable than that tho.
The new FA20 in BRZ and 86 seems to be pretty good so far.
Read about a BRZ thats been turbod and the long block is original. It was 440 hp at the wheels. They keep upping the power and the motor is still holding up.
I think its running too after this time
Im been looking at replacing my 1990 Legacy, Its up to at least 340,000kms. I normally do 800 to 900kms a fortnight in it.
Has a few oil leaks. Bit of rust showing.
It has to keep going for quite a while yet.
Im quite kean to get Lancaster 6 for a replacement. Like the 3.0L 6 cylinder with timing chain.

Chris, I reckonn that this is a goodwill jesture that would even leave Alan Brierley lost for words!
Car was supplied by Matt Golden, but sadly he has relinquished the Subaru franschise as Hyundai will not allow him another make in the showroom. The car is with K.T. Green (Otley) who are long established Subaru dealers and currently hold the largest stock of Subaru in the country.

KT Green. Yes took my Subby there once when working in Skipton. I rallied against the owners in the 90's so we had something to talk about.
