Peter's rebuilt gearbox has following numbers and letters on the box case. Any idea what they all mean?
Number 54551, number 10005 with F F I inside circles.
Meadows gearbox numbers.

Re: Meadows gearbox numbers.
Hi Keith,
I am not sure what the numbers mean exactly, but I can hazard a guess? I suggest the 54551 number is the serial number of the box, the F F 1 codes are probably the stamps of the assemblers and final testers. If the box subsequently fails, then manangement like to know who built the box! The 10005 number you mention is actually 50001, which is the Jowett part number, as it re-appears on the photos of more Meadows boxes that I have. I thought that with some more examples, we might see a pattern emerging?
I have taken photos of the four different boxes, but it seems that they are too large to attach? Any ideas?
Hope this helps,
David

Re: Meadows gearbox numbers.
Hi there,
Since my last post, I have had a go at resizing the photos that I wanted to attach. Here goes!
Hopefully, by seeing more examples, we can get further into the reasons behind the various stamps?
All the best,
David
[Opps - only allowed to attach three! ] I'll add one more below.

Re: Meadows gearbox numbers.
I too have several Meadows boxes, some with and some without the letters like FF1 or KK stamped on them. I remember reading in one of the Jowett books that when gearboxes were returned to the Jowett works for rebuilding, they were then overstamped. Could this be an explanation? Rgds Vic
