Hi Peter,

She can vote, but as you have discovered she needs to use a different e-mail address. I think she may also need to use a different computer, as the site seems to track if you have already voted by IP address - this means that Amy can't vote from our computer, because I have voted. There are ways round this, the best of which is to use a different computer (at work for example) and different e-mail address, even if you share one address normally.

Have had an email from Alan b. Too late for Sep Jowetteer as with printers.

Presumably votes are permitted from foreign parts - does anybody have email adresses for Australia & New Zealand editors or secretaries.

Do any of the registrars, treasurer or other club officials have lists of reasonable chunks of club membership that could be used to send email to a lot o people atone push of thebutton so to speak.

george ( thinking how much bigger voting power some other clubs may have)

Hi George,

Anyone with an e-mail address seems to be allowed to vote, so perhaps the Australia and New Zealand members could vote too.

I have a list of e-mail addresses that the Jowetteer goes out to on the same day that the postal version is delivered. I will include a request for them to share with their local sections and speak to everyone they come into contact with, from memory it includes quite a few members of the Exec committee across the country.

The best way to garner the maximum number of votes is to spread the word through social media - it reaches the maximum number of people in the minimum amount of time. Posting a quick "can you help me out" query on forums and other places even for unrelated activities isn't a bad way of getting 20, 30 or 50 votes very quickly.

The one thing that we have here is experience. We understand the rules, we know how it all works, the people involved, and a significant proportion of our members are online and enthusiastic about publicising our cars.

Speaking of social media, here is the facebook photo link I've put up to try to help promote it abit, have had quite a few responces now and comments to say people have voted, plus been going through a few the chat online friends. IF you are on or have facebook here is the link to it, hopefully it works

Putting aside the compertion - if there has ever been a more compelling demonstration of electronic / social media at work within the club - then this is it ! - Unfortunatly the non converts / supporters of this form of communication do not see it and the print format can not work in this case.

It is interesting that the competition was announced a couple of days after the Jowetteer went out, was closed before the next issue would arrive, and the shortlist has been announced a few days after the September issue, and will close before the October issue hits any doormats.

In short, our entries for the competition had to be co-ordinated online, publicising the voting had to be done online, all because a month is a very long time now e-mails are instantly received on the other side of the planet, websites can be created in a few hours, and forums and social media sites share information with more people faster than we could even pick up the phone to share.

Hopefully the oldest one make car club can demonstrate that we are also the most advanced car club in responding to the technical challenges of the internet and information sharing.

Alan, can you post a link to a few Youtube videos of you working on and driving your car please? I'm sure I've seen a few online, and want to share the vids with a few other websites where we are asking for people to vote to demonstrate quite how much work you do on the car, and that it is out there being enjoyed (and not trailered about to win trophies) partly because they love the look of it, and because I want to show them how it works and sounds etc.

They are perfect. The videos will help to show people that this is you and your family working on the car on evenings and weekends in a tiny garage without professionals doing it all for you.

I'm putting them everywhere - skiing forums, diving forums, other car club websites, anywhere else I can think of. Every website for every club or society you've ever been a part of should get a few votes, and you've only got to get a few votes from a few friends for them to really stack up - in previous years the winners have received only a few hundred votes, so if we can put you in the running with a few dozen votes we will.

Half of the story is getting it in front of people and telling them why to vote for you, the other half is just getting people onto the website and they will see that your car is one of the best out there. I suspect that you'd get to the NEC without all this and just leaving it to the general public, but we want to make sure :)

Well would you please help me along.

My emails come through Outlook Express, and my email address book is in there as well. I've sent myself an email saying - 'Dear everyone' etc and asking them to vote, and I've even included an link to the voting form from your first post.

Now how do I forward it to selected email addresses with one click of the mouse?. I don't really want to do them one by one.

Hi Tony,

What you need is the Bcc function - it stands for Blind Carbon Copy. You have an e-mail to yourself with the information required, now you just need to put all the e-mail addresses into the Bcc box, which should be underneath the "To" and "Cc" boxes at the top.

When you hit send, it will send an e-mail that you will receive, everyone else will receive, but they won't be able to see each others e-mail addresses and won't know who else was copied in.

Note that if you don't regularly use this function Outlook often clears up by hiding it from you. See here for how to reveal it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299804
