The Great Parts Run

Post by Chris Spencer »

A planned run that would resolve several issues commenced last Friday 27th July and went as detailed below:

Fri 27/07/12 - Travel from central london to Crawley to exchange my car with one of my work teams VW transporter vans - travel back to home in central London.

Sat 28/07/12 - Travel from central London to Alton in Hampshire to collect a suitable twin axle car trailer and return home.

Sun 29/07/12 - Travel from home to Uxbridge and load my Rover (problem with brakes and now out of MOT) and transport to Keith's at Kings Langley - unload the Rover and load the late Derek Hawkins Javelin on to the trailer - the Rover sits on Keith's drive until I get the time to put it on to the workshop lift and resolve the brake issues - Load the van with Jowett parts recently recovered from a haul at Banstead, Surrey - return home to central London.

Mon 30/07/12 - Collect Keith & the loaded trailer and head for Leeds City College to where the Javelin is being delivered for their restoration course (see seperate thread under Javelin section) - continue onwards to Bradford & Jowett Car Spares to deliver over a ton of spares - including Javelin body panels, heads, Bradford gearboxes, new old stock pistons / liners / bearings, grilles, starters etc - collect several boxes of spares to support the restoration of Peter Pfisters Javelin that we currently have in the workshop - also collect four doors
for my Jowett 8 restoration - overnight in Bingley.

Tues 31/07/12 - Travel from Bingley to Hull and collect a rear axle suplus to requirements (ex V8 engined Jupiter chassis) we should have also dropped off a couple of starter motors for Tom Chapman but as these were burried under many other parts they got forgotten - sorry Tom,we will get them to you somehow. Onwards to Darlington to collect a Jupiter chassis for one of my projects which gets loaded to the car trailer - onwards to Edinburgh to Drummond's to collect a set of Jupiter panels to go with the chassis and deliver some odds to Drummond.

Weds 01/08/12 - After overnighting in Edinburgh the long haul back down country began - we called in the Gregg establishment in Buxton to collect further parts for the Jupiter project before cracking on back to Kings Langley where we arrived at 19.30 and decided to unload with the help of Jack.

Thurs 02/08/12 - Just left for me to return the trailer to Hampshire and swop the van over for my car in Crawley and return home to London.

So 1500 miles, £280 of diesel, and a week of running around in return for resolving the logistics of many Jowett parts and rehoming them in the correct location - we just have to rack / store the Jupiter bits at Keith's which will get done tomorrow. Sharon (my other half) thinks it's something worthy of a film comedy - and indeed we had several good laughs on the trip. A seperate thread will be posted on my Jupiter
'Bitza' Special once I get round to it.
