2012 promises to be a vintage year for car clubs at the Silverstone Classic

If you own a classic car, take advantage of the special club display and ticket package now.

Or if you simply like seeing classic cars, purchase your ‘early bird’ ticket saving you up to 27% before 31st March, 2012

I think the SC team are going!

The team are now committed to this one, and it looks like we will be joined by Silverstone Regulars Mr and Mrs Ainge.

Important - we are not putting together a club stand, however we will all be displaying our cars on centre stage with the others on the AA Grand Touring Event, the new name for the Retro Run. When not out on the road, the parking area is usually right in the centre of the track.

To register your interest please contact me or e-mail nicole.potter@goose.co.uk who will contact you when registration opens for this popular event.

The Grand Touring event is great fun, and provides you with an activity to take part in each day through the weekend - a scenic run on Saturday, to a motoring related site, and a few parade laps around Silverstone on Sunday in front of the crowds. With the bands playing on Friday and Saturday night, it really is an active and enjoyable weekend, and that's before the hundreds of trade stands, and thousands of classic cars.

The cost for the Grand Touring event last year was £112, so I would expect it to be a similar price this year. Great value, as that includes three days entry to the event and the activities each day.

Well, we are back, with a significant amount of sunburn, after having been rained on, driven 100 miles around most of Buckinghamshire and beyond, driven around the grand prix track at Silverstone, and listened to everything from a good performance from Mike & The Mechanics to a truly dire performance from Adam Ant :D And the sun shone more than it has all summer from Friday night to Sunday afternoon.

Footage gradually being uploaded, a quick taster for you:

More to come, so feel free to subscribe to my Youtube channel and they'll be nice and easy to find - I'll try and update the links on here as I get through them.

Classic Silverstone

Post by Forumadmin »

Just back from 3 days at Silverstone. Well worth going to, rivaling the Festival of Speed and Revival at Goodwood as a classic car event. Friday started with a tulip road book tour from Basingstoke with a similar one from Towester on Saturday with differing routes available. We took a 100 mile route through Morse (detective) country and Oxford colleges. Some 'closed' lanes kept the navigators on their toes.

The weatherwas a little unkind during qualifying on Friday with many races red flagged. Saturday was beautiful with no rain so the racing was much easier to watch which I did from a marshall's post. The circuit has changed so much since I last raced there , but the marshalls did remember the Jupiter.

There is lots from everyone with bands on Friday and Saturday evening. Mike and the Mechanics was superb on Friday, but nearly everyone walked out on a dreadful Adam Ant performance on Saturday.

Camping facilities were superb apart from a muddy field. But the Petrol Head pub serving cask ale allowed us to take our minds off that.

The highlight for me, although only 1 lap, was to take the Javelin around the new circuit. There were too many cars to test the corners and the car but I managed to get up a bit of speed around a couple. the last Javelin on circuit must have been in the 1980s. But perhaps next year we will see one in action!

Highly recommended for next year's calendar.
