Magazine article

Why not tell us about your car (start with a picture) and say what you have done with it; either restoring or using it over the years. Restoration of particular parts is of special interest. Club members can have their space on in their Personal Album to do this.

Magazine article

Post by Forumadmin »

Last November I was contacted by a journalist wanting to do an article on the Javelin with Gerald Palmer and restoration themes.

Kieron Fennelly spent a day with me in January and then Matthew Richardson, came around in February. Hopefully some of the pictures and the article will appear in a car magazine. The car was not really prepared for concourse as it was used on Jenny's funeral and had been giving the journalist, Kieron Fennelly, a 25 mile spin around the muddy lanes of Hertfordhire the previous week. TOPIC These have not been edited but converted and resized to fit on the Gallery. The best way to view these is to select "View Slideshow (Full Screen)" from the "Album actions" drop down menu in the Gallery.
I must also apologise for the mess around the cars as the area was hastily cleared by the SC team of building debris the previous weekend. But the editor did want to see where the cars are rebuilt. I would be interested to learn your favourite photos either by responding here with the names of the picture file or using the comments facility on the Gallery.

Below are Interior 05 and Panning 05

I'd choose 'owner 15' as the best?? one of you, and I like 'panning 05' even though a polarising filter on the lens would have saved a lot of 'photoshopping' if it's used.

Panning 05 is my favourite.
And is in my post. The photographer wanted the trafficator operating!

Cornering 13 & 14 would be great if it didn't have that bit of bush sticking out across the car - the composition of the rest of it works really well. The other cornering pictures are pretty good, though difficult to get much more than front or back at the angle they've set up. As a result 16 is the best of the cornering photos I think - 28 would be great but the focus is a bit out. It might photoshop though, if they can get 28 tightened up it is the best shot of the car with a reasonable balance of background and interesting angle.

Panning 12 and 13 have a real feel of speed about them, which is good. To get the reflection on the side of the car in 13, and the background blurred, must have required real skill. I'd love to know how they managed to get that - to get something similar with Amy's car would be brilliant, the paint on hers would reflect even more than the Javelin.

Surprised there aren't a few photos of you standing with the car outside - depends on the angle they want to use for the article I guess.

Panning 12 is definitely my favourite as it shows the Javelin's shape at its best and gives the effect of speed beautifully! This image would capture the imagination of many prospective Javelin owners, I would think. Good luck with the article, Keith!

Re Image, "cornering 16".

Today I went back in time In my Delorian (using a refurbished flux capacitor) with hedge clippers on board and trimmed that offending bit of vegetation back a tad.
As time travel rules prohibit actually removing anything from the time that the changes are done in, I took the opportunity to convert the trimmings into what looks a little like a wind gathered pile of leaves on the side of the road . . .

I hope I haven't gone beyond my authority . . I can always go back a little further in the Delorian and graft the trimmings back on, if there happens to be any objection to what I took upon myself to do. :D

Date: presently in February 9, 2020.

EDIT:
Stardate, now: (Thursday 9th February)
It seems that the lightning storm that hit as I was travelling has warped the images above . . . the two images are supposed to be different.
Keith C has undertaken to accompany me back in the Delorian to sort this all out . . . such is his devotion to duty on behalf of us Jowett nutters!

Please bear with us and return to this space a little later.
Leo.

FURTHER EDIT:
(Tuesday 14 February).
The deed has been done . . . mission accomplished! All is now as it should be with the images. On our last time travel journey, Keith negated the high voltage surge that was experienced in the earlier trip. This was done by changing the Delorian's electrical system polarity momentarily as we travelled back to the present. But, there's a lesson to be learnt . . . everything MUST be prefect when time travelling . . . . much like a Jupiter when touring really! :D Thanks for your company and expertise, Keith

I guess the problem Matt had with the cornering sequence is that the Jav was going so fast he simply put his camera in semi-video mode. The road was quite slippery and I was a little wary of wiping Matt into a tree. This right hander was quickly followed by a left and then a hairpin that you see in Panning 05. We are still trying to sort out Leo's time travel. Warp drive aberations have now been resolved. The car has been taken back in time to before the last leaf on the branch had not grown to cover the rear bumper.

The check this morning on the effect of Leo's time machine also coincided with the arrival of a selection of folding reading glasses purchased from Amazon all at less than £5 a pair. I can now see the changes! :P

Leo can you send me back in time so that I do not need the increasingly stronger reading glasses?

If you guys were really committed to the time travel solution to the problem you wouldn't go back and trim the plant, you would go back to the plants mother, 100 years ago, and cut it down. Probably causing world war three as a consequence or something.

Hi all.

The time travel correction has been completed. There are now two subtly different images in that post . . . spot the difference?

I'm sorry Keith :( . . . you know the rules! NO physical material can be removed from, or taken to, that old time we were in (that's why were were nude on arrival). . . you are stuck with your present specs* I'm afraid. You remember, I explained to you that I found that I couldn't take the hedge clippers with me on the first trip back . . I had to buy some there. And, you don't really want to go back permanently do you? You wouldn't be here for us, to council and guide us . . . . selfish reason I know, but . . . we'd really miss you!

Jack. I'm not too keen on WW 3 . . . I must put more serious thought into any possible consequences of deeds done when "away".

* No pun was intended. . . (specs . . . i.e. your present personal specifications. Your glasses!)

I've been thinking . . . perhaps that big black post in the picture should go too??
Nah . . . I haven't got time! . . . The house window frames and the barge boards have to be painted. Mind you I could take pictures of the house and use Photoshop to paint them . . . Hmmmm!

Just received my complimentary copy of July's Practical Classics. What I think is a great article (but I am biased) starts on page 52.
