On my 1930 long Four the base of the back seat fits into a metal rim around the front edge of the framework under the seat that is part of the chassis.

You 'hook' the front edge behind this rim and then push the rear edge of the seat downwards past the backrest squab, or lift the backrest squab before you put the base down. It then hinges down into place.

I hope this helps?

Martin,

Does the 1935 'Falcon' have a rear seat that you can put in two positions by sliding it forward, which gives more internal boot space in the forward position, or is it a fixed seat? I can't remember if the 'Falcon' has a boot.

My Short Saloon has a fixed position seat, and to stop it sliding forward there are a couple of plates (covered in rexine) around 3x1.5" standing proud of the wooden upstand at the back of the foot well. They are positioned about 30" apart.

This might just be a fixture in the short saloons, as there isn't much scope for increasing rear space.

P.S. The pattern has been sent to Ted about a week ago.

Hi thanks for the info, my car has a sort of a boot if you lift the back seat up it is hinged on the top, and looks like it has only one position, and angled forwards at the bottom. I have looked at mine this morning and nothing jumps out at me how to fastened the base in as the floor under the seat is steel, Do you think it may have had straps on the back of the seat base ? to hold it back. Thanks Martin ps thanks tony

all 1935 saloons would have the same back seat (dfferent upholstery according to model) and sma method of retaining the arspart of the seat so anybody with a kestrel or curlew should be able to throw light on the mater.
