search this forum as it has already been discussed. Search for 'multigrade' . Straight oils IMHO are only for racing.

In my 35 7hp I use Morris’s ‘Supreme 30’ spec API CC/SD and have done for 20 plus years
In my 37 10hp I use Morris’s ‘Magnol 20/50’ and have done for over 10 years also thought about using this in the 7hp as it would save having two oil drums in the garage. I know some Pre-war people do use a 20/50 and recon it is better

Morris oils are a little difficult to find in some places (south of Watford) but in your neck of the woods they should be readily available. If you look at their website they have a good range of specialist oils which is more than can be said of other oil brands

I have absolutely no idea what the 'best' oil for the pre war twins is but for what its worth, when running pre war 8 and both CB & CC Bradfords as everyday cars & doing quite a high annual mileage, I always used duckams Q 20/50 plus a liberal dose of molyslip with no problems .
I also used molyslip in gearbox & back axle.

20/50. 20/40. or 30 oil for a 1935 car
Over simplified here....The highlighted are the recommende high and low ambiant air temp the oil is designed to work in in modern engines so a 20/50 is 20 deg to 50 deg say in the desert with cold nights and hot days

Brand...I use what ever brand is on special so long as it is not Chinese and not reconstuted...and the grade recommend in the owner hand book.....everything else is for thetrack...and like MOST stuff for the track it is not suitable for the street.
Dont get sucked in with the marketing propaganda BS and fancy propaganda names...and the same when it comes to additives....your recommended manufactures oil already has the detergents and stablisers added....why add more and dilute the oil its self even more?

In the November 2011 edition of "Automobile" there is a review of a new book called "Which Oil?" publishewd by Veloce at £12.99 (www.veloce.co.uk). This might answer some of these questions.
