Javelin Sun Visors

Post by paul wilks »

Another stupid question but you should be used to them by now! Does anyone know the size of the screws which are used to fix the complete sun visors i.e. with 'hinge' to the actual car just above the windscreen, please? I seem to have temporarily lost mine after 30 years off the road!

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

I have taken two pics of one of the screws holding my sun visors in place. All four screws are the same. As you can see they are approx. 3/4" long and have pozidrive countersunk heads. They have a diameter of 0.138".

I would guess these are not the originals, as the car was rebuilt in the early 1990's and the originals might have been mislaid? However, I guess you are concerned about the length, as if too long, they might do some damage!

I hope this is helpful?

All the best,

David

That may be the right size, but it can't be the original screw - cross head not slot.

Jack.

Well Jack, I think you had better see what screws were fitted to your Jav. Good luck finding the right box in the cellar!
My guess is that they should be chrome, slot, countersunk but semi-domed, not flat. Below is what is fitted to Jen's Jav. They are also 2BA set screws and not wood or self tappers. The two into the frame are 1/2inch and the two into the visor are 3/8inch. I have just removed them to check.

What a mine of information! Many thanks everyone. Perhaps I can now fit those very useful(?) visors.
