Motor Sports Association subs

Post by Keith Clements »

The subscription of £66 is due for next year's membership of the UK MSA. Like other subscriptions the club pays to other organisations, we should review this every year. Perhaps we can air our views on JowettTalk and communicate them to the exec either via the AGM on October 15th at 13.00hrs or via your section secretaries or via snail mail to the secretary.

The main benefit of membership is that it allows the club to organise events such as touring assembies (scenic runs) and gymkhanas knowing that the MSA insurance applies and use the local MSA co-ordinator to liaise with the police so that road safety is improved. If we have members who want to do competitive motorsport, then the club membership allows them to enter certain events. However, the actual benefit is now small and we might consider alternatives.
In the past we have had affiliated membership with other clubs that organised road and stage rallies so that our members could partake. We have reduced this number over the years as those wanting to compete have joined the clubs directly.

Since one of our 'aims' is to promote use of the marque through competition, membership of the MSA would be useful; but not essential. It may be worth finding out how other clubs organise scenic runs and gymkhanas if they do not have MSA membership. We would also need to check our insurance policy for suitable cover.

Anyway, let us hear your views.

Hello Keith.
My feeling is that £66 for a year is a paltry sum for the benefits you outline in your post, and suggest that the Exec. authorises payment. It shouldn't make to much of a dent in our finances having seen the balance sheet that came with the September Jowetteer, and it's less than half the price of a stall at Beaulieu which only lasts for 2 days.

Tony.

In my book there is no viable argument for not being affiliated to the MSA.
