Hi all

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Gaydon last Saturday for my first time with the Jowett cars

Having lost out when Fotopic went into liquidation, I am slowly rebuilding a new photosite with Zenfolio, and I have uploaded my photos from Gaydon for the "enjoyment" of members - the link to them is http://cliffjones.zenfolio.com/p467485569

There are a couple of images without vehicle details, since they were not included in the programme for the day - I would be extremely grateful if SKS could provide these to complete the collection

Cheers

‘The Rose of the Shires Rally’
“Daventry Calling, THAT WAS Daventry Calling……all JOWETTS.”
…and my, how the JOWETTEERS responded…..!
Now the final transmission… summary report…!
In May 2008 on the return from a successful and thoroughly enjoyable Rally
in Crieff, a small group of Midlanders started the plan for hosting the 2011 JCC National
Rally. In the subsequent meetings the group became a Committee and we set ourselves
ten criteria that we needed to fulfil. We are delighted to report that the 2011 Jowett
National Rally met all ten criteria - and how…! Judging by the dozens of
congratulatory cards, letters, and e-mails we have received since the end of May it
seems that our efforts were rewarded by providing Members with a very successful
and memorable National Rally.
The mid-shires location of DeVeres Staverton Park Hotel had been chosen for
its excellent accessibility, fine hospitality, and modern en-suite accommodation, all set
in delightful landscaped grounds offering fabulous facilities including an 18-hole
championship golf course, indoor pool, gym and sauna; and all centrally located to a
wealth of other visitor attractions. The whole package represented excellent value for
money.
We had SPACE to meet with a seemingly endless supply of complimentary tea
and coffee and a PLACE to renew acquaintances and make new friends. The picnic
setting display with a JOWETT Short Two in the hotel foyer along with an archive
photographic display of “The Way We Were” presented a focal point for Jowetteers to
congregate at the end of the day’s activities or before the start of a new day.
The Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon provided us with a splendid landscaped
setting on Saturday for the JOWETT Concours d’elegance and Vehicle Displays. The
stunning Galleries and Museum made an excellent interlude and the indoor facilities
provided a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for the Section displays, the Legacy
Project, the Jowett Shop, the Jowett Film Show in the period Cinema and the Seminars
where the Jowett Celebrities provided entertaining anecdotal renditions of Jowett
ownership particularly relating to the Javelin. This was especially poignant as the
Javelin, along with other marques, contributed to our alignment with the GP100 event
commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Javelin’s designer the AutoJowetteer
Page 9
Architect Gerald Palmer. Furthermore, the Jowett Car Club Concours d’elegance
Trophies were presented by Celia Palmer, the daughter of the late Gerald Palmer.
Saturday Evening Dinner – followed by our own in-house entertainment with
Roger Cross and Sheila Rigg, providing a light hearted summary of the 1950s.
The early starters for the Scenic Run on the Sunday were flagged away by Councillor
Ann Carter, Chair of Daventry District Council who really rose to the occasion
following a quick spin around the car park in Dave Flowers’ Long Four Vintage
Jowett. The route for the fifty-mile drive around the county of Spires and Squires
included a series of optional visits to Sulgrave Manor, ancestral home of the
Washingtons; Canons Ashby Manor and Gardens, a detour to the site where RADAR
was ‘born’, plus an opportunity for a coffee/lunch stop and some retail therapy at the
Old Dairy Farm and Barn at Upper Stowe. All credit to the reliability of the Jowett
cars and the careful pre-rally preparations by their owners. Throughout the whole day
there were no calls for the recovery service and at one stage Michael Barker and
Richard Gane thought that they must have lost any mobile phone signals.
Meanwhile, back at Staverton Park a wedding was scheduled and a blushing bride
in a magnificent white satin dress waited in the reception area for her cue to walk
through the grounds to the Staverton Suite where the wedding ceremony was to take
place. Never one to miss a chance to promote the virtues of Jowett Cars, Peter Tribble
made the girl an offer that could not be refused: a ride to the ceremony in his gleaming
dark blue Jowett Jupiter, the colour of which by pure coincidence complimented the
floral arrangement in her bouquet. A memorable and stunning photo opportunity.
The Gala Dinner and Club Presentations on Sunday was a grand event. The
tables were beautifully decorated with stunning floral displays created by Wendy
Oliver. The excellent meal was followed by a toast to the Jowett Car Club by the
National Chairman Roger Cross. Les White, Chairman of the Midland Section,
acknowledged the valuable contribution made by the Ladies of the JCC and in reply
Glenys Ainge read a most fitting verse composed by Mrs Gerald Palmer which had
been originally read at a Jowett Car Club Section Dinner in the 1980s. Following the
Club presentations, our President, Malcolm Oliver, ‘teased’ the assembly by asking
them all to stand, and look beneath their respective chairs. The puzzlement turned to
laughter and pleasure as it was announced that attached to one chair from each table
was a ticket that signified the recipient had ‘won’ the splendid floral table decoration.
The income from the tickets for the Jowett Car Club National Raffle was quite
overwhelming and we even had Members requesting additional books. Sales of tickets
continued right up to the very last moment and we thank you for your support. Our
sincere thanks go to Danuta Morgan for the beautifully hand-crafted teddy bear – the
‘Viscount of Daventry’ which, combined with the generosity of Morrisons
Supermarkets, meant that we had over twenty-five additional prizes to be awarded on
the night. The ‘Teddy Bear Raffle’ generated over £300 which went to the chosen
charity - the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Service. The winner
of the ‘Viscount of Daventry’ was Ruth and Peter Pfister who had travelled to the
National Rally from Switzerland.
In closing, we offer our thanks to the sponsors, advertisers and supporters without
whose generosity the Rally could not have achieved its goals. We must also
Jowetteer Page 10
acknowledge the support of the Sections and in particular the contribution by Paul
Beaumont, Chair of the Centenary Rally, who happily encouraged us to adapt and
adopt the 2010 administration computer programmes.
It is often said that “time can dull the memories” but if the 2011 National Rally
was anything to go by, the spirit, determination, and commitment demonstrated by the
members of the Jowett Car Club will ensure that the memories will live on for a very
long time. Well done everyone; looking forward to Llandrindod Wells in June 2012.

A few photos on Flickr that might be of interest - see here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27647249@N ... 781862588/

Not sure if this is a member's page, all the photos seem to be Jowetts so perhaps it is.

Jack.
