Keith: -

I hope to see you there! I have already got a ticket courtesy of my son's birthday.

Weather looks promising - hope for good crowds too!

Goodwood day out

Well!!

What a fantastic show- and great weather too!

Sadly, I missed you Keith - I did look for the Javelin but no sign, well there was plenty to look at elsewhere.

I accidentally bumped into Jackie Stewart and rather more deliberately briefly saw Stirling Moss (I didn't get a chance to remind him of our previous meeting when I was Clerk of the Course at the Bexhill 100 shows).

For anyone thinking of going another year, a couple of points: -

1/ It is a VERY long walk (about half a mile) from the car parks to the display areas. These are in Lord March's front gardens, but the garden runs to a couple of hundred acres, so even when you get there . .

2/ The charges for the grandstands are not really worth it unless you want to stay there most of the day (see point 1 above!), or the weather is foul.

3/ There is an unbeatable range of cars and other vehicles of all sorts and ages on show that otherwise are only in private collections.

4/ All the exhibitors I spoke to were very friendly (even though they were not Jowetteers!) and the atmosphere is great.

5/ The NOISE is amazing! All those straight through exhausts from 6 or more litres of 4 cylinder engines make super megaphones.

All in all a very enjoyable day. Still, its a pity I missed you. Perhaps another year?

We are booked in for this year, staying over HERE - they have a campsite but not a lot of facilities (though it is a pub, so they have beer and a toilet!) approx 1 mile from the event and cheap. We should (boiler repair permitting) have a hot shower in the bus by then.

Anyone else coming along to this? http://www.goodwood.co.uk/festival-of-s ... lcome.aspx

Dates are 1st, 2nd and 3rd of July - there will be some of us at the event on all three days, along with the motorhome. Any other members are welcome to drop in for barbecue and a drink after the event, or we'll see you there.

Jack.

Apologies I am a no show - we have made a conscious effort this year to limit the social diary and concentrate on finishing our London apartment - get it sold, find & buy somewhere else with more room, space and garage / garage & workshop potential etc - add to that our extensive work commitments to the day jobs and that old chestnut of your Project B Javelin - Jack !! and help with the Clements workshop extension - plus other interests etc and you get the picture.

Update from Goodwood - Keith has driven down there early this morning in the SC, and promptly driven up to the front gate and parked next to the Supercars. No idea how he managed that, but good advertising for the club - hopefully he has got the story board with him.

Amy has left home in the Bedford to park up at the pub for the weekend.

I am stuck at work, even though it is the first day of the new quarter, and very very quiet. I will have to see if I can sneak out early this afternoon to get down there.

Photos and trip report to follow.
