Master cylinder not working after overhaul?

Post by Alan Stanley »

We have a situation where we overhauled a master cylinder, new piston, both new seals and O ring. Rfitted and pumped litres of fluid through the system only to continue to have air coming through. Removed and replaced all seals and O ring, with exactly the same result, could not flush out the air, and no pedal pressure what so ever despite pumping through a lot of fluid. Conclude air is getting in, but do not know why or exactly where. Another old master cylinder was fitted and the brakes bleed of air after just half a litre of fluid and good pedal pressure resulted.

Has anyone else had this problem, what is the cause and how was it fixed?

Sounds like it may be the recuperator seal. Have a look at
http://jowett.org/jowettnet/dt/tech/bra ... brakes.htm
and see if you can figure out how air is getting in.http://jowett.org/jowettnet/dt/tech/brakes/br-mc3.gif and expand to max size by clicking the zoom icon that appears when you hover over the picture. My guess is the seal is either fitted the wrong way round or not the correct size.

Thanks for the web references.
When I open and print I only get the top left piece of the page.
How do I print these images?

R clk on the image and "save target as" on your harddrive (desktop)
Then print out from there.
