Membership Form Fill and Sign

Post by Keith Clements »

You will see a new method on http://jowett.org/join.htm to join or renew your membership. It is still better to use Member Services to do this as the services help you complete the form and also show you the details currently held by the club. But if you prefer a form then why not try this as it produces a clear input that does not rely on the hard working Membership secretary deciphering your writing.
The new method uses the Fill and Sign capability of Adobe to lead you through completing the form. You should be able to do this on most devices such as PCs and smartphones. This tutorial was made using Windows 10 on a PC. On my Samsung Smart Phone I just save and open. Then Acrobat opens the file for input.

First navigate in your browser to http://jowett.org/join.htm

Choose the the Acrobat Membership form

And Open with a Different Viewer. This might differ with different browsers and devices.

You want to open the file with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

Now you can type your details into the text boxes (those with red borders are required). Tab across boxes. Click on tick boxes to fill the desired box.

When you get to the signature box you may get a this pop up if you have not previously set up a digital signing certificate.
This may differ with different devices. Anyway you can create a normal written signature using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC rather than using a digital one.
For instance, on my Samsung Android phone I am given the option to complete the signature box with text, freehand or using my signature. I have stored my signature on the Smartphone, so I just click 'signature' on any form that I need to sign. This is a normal written signature not the digital certificate one.

Follow this sequence to save the signature for future use.

You will return back to the form which will ask you to choose the signing certificate to use.

and will then invite you to save your completed form. Please add your name and membership number if you know it to the filename.

You can open the form to check your input. You can also correct and save again.

When complete please attach to an email and send to membership@jowett.org

My word.
I hope I will still get a membership form attached to a Jowetteer magazine.
I'll then send off a cheque in the time-honoured method.
Tony.

Covid safe membership renewal.

Post by Keith Clements »

The disease can be transmitted via the postal service when the letter is posted, as it travels through the system by those who have to handle it and when it is delivered and opened. Further risk occurs when cheques have to be banked. Consider our Membership Secretary who has to venture out to bank the cheques.

Some people may not have access to telephone or online banking, but there are few that could not use either way with a bit of effort. Payment is easier online at jowett.org/join.htm as credit and debit cards can be used. There is instant confirmation and there is no risk of loss of cheques in the post.

Written forms take more time to decipher and are prone to transcription errors. Keyboard entry is more accurate and, if the on line system is used, the details held by the club can be checked and corrected by the member. The on line changes are immediately available to all members and membership acceptance can be confirmed. The online system saves the club officers time in processing your application.

jowett.org/join.htm links to various ways you can renew. There are the online member services, the Adobe form which leads you through completion on your PC or Smartphone, the Word form that you can complete and email and a freeform document you can use if none of the previous are suitable for you.

Some may argue it takes longer to complete renewal online than with a paper form. If none of your details have changed and you have already registered for Member Services then it should take less than a minute to renew, including payment. Of course, once registered you have access to the many services available to members. You only need to register once, provided you still have your activation key and remember your password. If you have any problems then please read the webpages and tutorials carefully and then explain your issue to the webmaster@jowett.org or phone him.

When you do not have the inclination to use the online system, please think about using one of the documents above and email your renewal. You can either use the PayPal payment method for credit card payment or one of four other payment methods. Our officers will thank you for it.

The join page on jowett.org does provide printable forms for the many that cannot find the one that came in the December Jowetteer.

Remember you MUST complete a form in one way or another to continue membership.
