Re: How can we improve JowettTalk?

I have not used Jowett Talk much, but have had helpful and prompt responses when I have posted. I should use it more, there are probably helpful topics and tips that I miss. It might be my lack of tech ability, but one thing that would definitely prompt me to use it more would be if I could set it s...

Thanks. Looks much more straightforward that way.

Re: Exhaust system

Thanks Chris and Rich. Certainly food for thought. I think I might have to sacrifice some ground clearance and have a simpler system than current, with 4 into 1.

Re: Exhaust system

Thanks Rich. Not sure what the standard manifolds look like, but I have basically four separate mild steel plates with the exhaust tubing welded on, all facing backwards. See pictures (not great!) Apart from sound, are there any performance benefits by going 1/2 and 4/3 rather than 1/3 and 2/4.

Re: Exhaust system

Thanks Graham. A fair way from here but not impossible. Will bear it in mind.

Exhaust system

I need to renew my current exhaust system and have a couple of questions (bearing in mind that as a special bodied car the engine is mounted differently to normal and a standard exhaust will not, and cannot be made to, fit). The current exhaust has pipework from no 2 cylinder across and joining pipe...

Misfire

After a lengthy saga getting new inlet manifolds made (previous ones were distorted and allowing air in) my Jupiter based special is now running, but with a misfire. All plugs are new and sparking correctly. There is no appreciative difference in he heat from all four exhausts (all four are too hot ...

Re: Electrical junction box??

Thanks Keith. Looking through past papers, able to answer my own question. Its a voltage regulator from a Citroen Dyane, but missing innards and cover. Will now be removed.

Electrical junction box??

I am looking at a limited rewire on my 1952 special bodied Jupiter which was rebodied some years ago when I suspect most of the wiring was done. The wiring is now a bit of a rats’ nest and I am trying to sort it out, but I have no idea what one component on the existing fuse board is. Top and bottom...

Re: Spark plugs

No, I thought it was so close as it was that I would leave it. Very difficult, even with an endoscope, to be completely accurate about tdc as there is so little movement. This was my best estimate of tdc 940DF8BC-068D-4CDF-A531-62A5C739C8B9.jpeg You can see that my mark (that I initally put on using...

Re: Spark plugs

Hopefully I understood correctly. Set the tappet on no 1 inlet so no gap, then rotated until I had 12 thou lift on a dial guage. Difficult to be precise within a couple of degrees, but it is about 13 before tdc. Not the 12 specified, but I assumed close enough not to be an issue. Reset tappets and p...

Re: Spark plugs

Nigel - no idea what caused the bent rods - bent when I bought the car. Not so bent that they did not operate, but bent enough that it was not possible to get a consistent tappet gap. Replacements have, as yet, stayed straight. Keith - many thanks for the advice. I had used a probe to identify tdc, ...

Re: Spark plugs

156122E0-2F22-46B9-9012-B9C1710F48C3.jpeg So I have stuck on the timing chart so that tdc is at the vertical position (there is a paint mark on the pulley which confirms this) and at the point the inlet pushrod starts to go tight looks to be about 12/13 degrees before it should be. I know the car w...

Re: Spark plugs

Thanks for spotting that. Have checked, and it is my short term memory, and not the actual firing order that is at fault.
Actual firing order 1 4 2 3.

Re: Spark plugs

Thanks for that. Firing order 1 4 3 2 I had drained the tank and fuelled with V Power Have tried both half throttle and pumping throttle when running but still dies. Have fitted temporary arrangement of two separate choke cables, starting on 3/4 choke. Will inspect for air leaks this week. I have or...
