SM 7663?

A happy new year to all. As it’s been a quiet spell, I have read through some of the joweteers in the archive - in the mid 80’s there was mention of a 7hp chassis registered SM 7663, I just wonder if it’s still around / rebuilt? Does anyone know?

Re: Run about and gear change

Hi, many thanks - all advice is appreciated, this is my first car this old. I changed the gear oil, the old stuff was clean and no debris in it. The gearbox internals all looked good too. This did help and fully agree, not to be hasty while cold. I may look at the clutch adjustment but I think all i...

Run about and gear change

On such a nice weekend, time had to be made for a short run out. Stopped to meet a new Scania 50th anniversary model, quite a comparison. How many days this year will we get out!? This gave me the chance to drain off the gearbox oil when back in the garage. I will refill with fresh oil in due course...

YouTube Javelin field find

Hi,
Just watched a video uploaded to YouTube, search “The Bearded Explorer” to find it. A hoard of classics is discovered including at least 4 javelins, one is GJF664. Looks a real shame and they all need saved! Anyone aware of this location?

Oil breather

Hi again, On opening the cover, this is what the flap inside the casting looks like. Other than it is complete, the spring holds the flap a millimeter off the hole. Should this be the case? Is there any other servicing which this will need? The car leaves a couple spots of oil when warm after a run ...

Many thanks, i have drained oil in order to change this week and shall have a look into the breather at the dame time, which i think it is needing. I shall report back with my findings.

Re: Oil level indicator wire

Many thanks, i have rejoined the club and will work my way through some of the articles. Your input is appreciated, its easily understood too. The brakes are in working order and the steering is good too. I have been gently taking a run to get used to the controls. Although an earlier car, it has th...

Re: Oil level indicator wire

Many thanks, I shall drain the sump and refill 3.5 pints and see what happens, at least then I know it’s correct. I hadn’t considered the wire may be too short, or shorter than it originally was. This is a 1924 engine, Short 2 recently acquired. While I have your attention is there anything else pru...

Oil level indicator wire

Now getting to know a Short 2, my question is how reliable is the oil level indicating wire? If i remove the cap the wire stands proud of the tube by a few mm. i can then raise the wire with my fingers to about 12mm proud of the tube. Is this correct? Also, after running up there is a few minor oil ...

Cover car

I bought this to have a look through, the cover car is stated as a 1915 8hp. Looking on this site the surviving cars are from 1913 & 16, this car I assume is one of these ?
